Best Time to Visit from the UK

Tenerife’s biggest selling point is its year-round warmth. Even in January, temperatures rarely drop below 18°C. However, the different parts of the island experience different weather — the south (Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos) is consistently sunny and dry, while the north (Puerto de la Cruz) is greener and occasionally cloudy.

Flights from the UK

Tenerife is one of the best-connected destinations from the UK, with direct flights from virtually every major British airport. Tenerife South (TFS) is the main airport for the tourist resorts, while Tenerife North (TFN) serves Puerto de la Cruz.

Best Resorts in Tenerife for Brits

Playa de las Américas is the most popular with British tourists — lively, sunny and packed with bars, restaurants and entertainment. Good for groups and those who want a busy holiday.

Los Cristianos is slightly calmer than Américas but still well-served — a good choice for families and couples who want some atmosphere without the loudest nightlife.

Costa Adeje is the upmarket option — beautiful beaches, luxury hotels and a more relaxed atmosphere. Increasingly popular with British travellers who want something a cut above.

Puerto de la Cruz in the north is the choice for those who want culture, character and dramatic volcanic scenery rather than a typical beach resort.

Things to Do in Tenerife

Mount Teide is the unmissable attraction — Spain’s highest peak at 3,718 metres, with a cable car to near the summit. Book well in advance, especially in summer.

Whale and dolphin watching off the west coast of Tenerife is among the best in Europe — resident pods of pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins are seen year-round.

Siam Park is consistently rated one of the best water parks in the world and is excellent for families. Book tickets in advance online to save money.

No. Tenerife is part of Spain and the EU, but as a Canary Island it’s outside the Schengen zone’s free movement rules. UK passport holders can visit for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa.
